Smith: Long Hair Don’t Care
Updated: June 29, 2013 at 04:01 p.m. Friend(s) Email CULVER CITY, Calif. — A season in which you finish with 19.5 sacks never can be deemed a failure. Instant Debate: Sack king in 2013? Who will win the inaugural DeaconJones Award as the NFL’s sack leader in 2013?
49ers’ Aldon Smith on cusp of making more sack history
Fun Fact: I may or may not have intentionally blown the Call of Duty match since I was on Rices team. Go Niners! Meanwhile, Aldon Smith is confident of his teams chances of making a return trip to the big game. The All-Pro linebacker was pleased with the teams off-season acquisitions like Nnamdi Asomugha (although dont tell defensive coordinator Vic Fangio that) Colin Kaepernick Game Jersey and Anquan Boldin (note: this was before Michael Crabtree went down for the season with an Achilles tear) and feels like they have the core in place to make another run at the championship. This is the part where I wholeheartedly agree with Smith and think that the possibility of a rematch is real and if given the opportunity, Ill be able to rock some thick puffy jackets at New Meadowlands Stadium next year while watching my team chase its sixth Super Bowl ring. Fun Fact: Aldon Smiths most recent sneaker purchase as of this interview was a pair of Jeremy Scott x adidas Originals. Over the past few months, we had a chance to talk to both Smith and Rice at separate Call of Duty events (theyre big fans of the series, although Smith is more of a multi-player guy and Rice loves single-player) not only about the games, but about where they feel their respective teams are coming into this season. While NFL guys dont often get the publicity as being sneakerheads as NBA guys do, all you have to do is hang out with these guys for a few minutes and realize that their love for kicks is as true as their hardwood counterparts. Not only that, we also had a chance to ask them about their respective sneaker game and what their five favorite pairs are. Its no easy task being put on the spot like that so here were their choices along with what they had to say about each pair. Aldon Smith Nike Air Force 1 These were the first pair that Smith mentioned although it was hard for him to narrow it down to a single colorway or style (low, mid, high, Lunar, etc.). With so many colorways and special editions through the years, we have to agree it would be hard to settle on just one.
Aldon Smith Will Have Impact On Super Bowl, Even If Not On Stat Sheet
On Thursday afternoon, Smith said, via Twitter: “Want to clear up rumors of me getting jumped, I’m ok and doing well! Como! I missed you. Go Tigers!!” Two hours later, Smith who attended college at the University of Missouri in Columbia, addressed the rumors more directly: “Didn’t get jumped_ stop asking.” On Thursday morning, Ashley Zavala , a television reporter for the NBC affiliate in Columbia, said on Twitter that Smith was “jumped.” A Columbia police spokeswoman confirmed there was a “disturbance” involving two black males at the El Rancho restaurant. Officers were dispatched to the restaurant at 1:56 a.m., but no report was filed. An El Rancho employee who answered the phone Thursday said she was aware of an incident involving Smith, but declined to provide more details.
Sack drought confounds, motivates Aldon Smith

16. A week later, with Justin out, the Niners scraped the low point of their season, a 42-13 beatdown by the Seahawks in Seattle. Playing in a cumbersome, wrist-to-shoulder brace he has grown to loathe, Smith returned for the postseason. With nine tackles against the Packers and Falcons, he’s holding his own and then some. But he’s not last year’s All-Pro. There’s a direct correlation between Justin’s ability to occupy (and, occasionally, artfully grab) blockers, and Aldon’s ability to go knifing through the resulting rush lanes, even if the 49ers don’t care to admit it. “I don’t see that,” said defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, asked if Aldon’s sackless spell was connected to Justin’s injury. “First off, in most of these games where Aldon hasn’t gotten any sacks, he’s rushing well.
The past month has been as pressure packed an intense as it will ever get on the NFL level for these players, and the last thing to figure as the cause of his slump is his level of interest. The real reason is a combination of Justin Smiths absence, Aldon himself dealing with and injury and how he is played against and who they have been playing. Dealing With Injuries And Double Teams In practice, Aldon Smith has been limited, trying to minimize contact on his shoulder. His injury has not limited his playing time however, but he is not 100%, so its unfair to expect him to be the same player he was to start the season. To make matter worse, while dealing with his injury, his partner in crime, Justin Smith, suffered a torn triceps, leaving Aldon alone in the trenches. Justin Smith is the heart and soul of the defense, and the entire unit struggled while he was out, as they adjusted to playing without him. Without Justin in the lineup teams were able to focus solely on Aldon, so its understandable that he struggled as he got accustomed to new looks. Like at other any other position, a player must get an idea of how teams play them before they can figure out how to excell. Aldon is slowly putting this together, and has coaches and one former player helping him learn and develop into a better player.

“But it’s the side-to-side, the agility that makes him special.” Staley says the hardest part of his season is the time each summer he has to face Smith in training camp. A reserve lineman takes on those responsibilities during the season. “It sucks,” Staley says. “I always think training camp is the hardest time of my year, just because I have to go against him and (defensive lineman) Justin (Smith) every single day. But it makes me a better player.” Staley says two things have happened for Aldon Smith since he came up a half-sack short of the rookie record of 14, set by the original “Freak,” Jevon Kearse, in 1999. Smith, 23, expanded his array of moves during the offseason, and he’s able to read the intention of blockers before they get to him. “He’s still developing,” Staley says. “But he has everything.
